12″ C · 6 Hz Theta Acoustic Beating Set

Two tones. One evolving field of sound.

This set includes two 12" frosted crystal singing bowls tuned to the same musical note through two different tuning references:

• One 12" C bowl tuned to 432 Hz
• One 12" C bowl tuned to 440 Hz
• Two silicone crystal bowl mallets
• Two O-rings

Although both bowls are tuned to C, their frequencies are slightly different. When sounded together, the interaction between the tones creates an audible pattern of expansion and softening within the shared sound field.

This naturally occurring phenomenon is known as acoustic beating.

Rather than remaining completely still, the combined tone develops a gentle sense of rhythm and movement. The sound may seem to swell, recede and return as the two frequencies move in and out of alignment.

The result is a listening experience that may feel:

Why Acoustic Beating?

The term binaural beat is often used broadly within the sound wellness community. Technically, however, binaural beats are generally created when two different tones are delivered separately to the left and right ears, most commonly through headphones.

These crystal bowls create something different.

Because both tones are sounded together in the same physical space, their sound waves interact acoustically. The resulting rise and fall in intensity can be heard within the room without headphones.

For this reason, Mystic Meditations refers to these collections as Acoustic Beating Sets.

The Theta Relationship

The frequency relationship created by this pairing produces an acoustic pulse within the theta range, approximately 6 Hz.

Theta activity is commonly associated with slower, more inward states of awareness, including:
